GRIMES COUNTY — Fifteen dogs were rescued from "heartbreaking" conditions in Grimes County.

According to the Houston Humane Society, the Harris County Animal Cruelty Task Force caught wind of the conditions after a video of the animals went viral.

Dogs were found tied to trees in a deserted wooded area with 15 pound chains around their neck.

The Houston Humane Society said the animals had minimal access to food, drank dirty rain water, and used trash bins for shelter.

One puppy was found with broken limbs. The Houston Humane Society said it is unknown whether the injury is connected to dog fighting.

The Houston Humane Society is asking for donations for medical care and housing for the dogs. The group said they have taken in 96 dogs from seizure cases in the past two weeks.
