COPPERAS COVE, TX — Copperas Cove police have identified the man who was killed when he was hit by a train on Thursday.

Police said 29-year-old Kurtis Michael Roemeling was hit by a train that was operated by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. Employees with the company reported the accident to police around 11 a.m.

Police said Roemeling was walking west on the railroad tracks by the 1200 block of FR 1113 (W. Avenue B). The train was traveling west approaching him.

The train operator noticed Roemeling and immediately activated the emergency stopping system for the train while signaling the horn.

Roemeling did not take evasive action to get away from the train, and was then hit, police said.

Roemeling suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Copperas Cove police are investigating the incident.
