ROUND ROCK, TX — Central Texas ladies over 50 hit the basketball court and showed the world that age is but a number.
It’s all part of a game called "Granny Basketball" that started in the 1920s and restarted in 2005.
There are over 40 teams across the country and three in Texas with another assembling in Copperas Cove.
All the teams compete, so many of the games involve traveling.
Granny basketball is open to all women over the age of 50 and comes with some special rules. Rules such as, no running, jumping or physical contact.
Players in central Texas say that safety is their main concern but fun and friendship are a close second.
There is a new team called the Yellow Roses out of Copperas Cove that is looking to fill their roster.
The team says anyone looking to join or just learn more about Granny Basketball all they need to do is come to one of their practices at the Copperas Cove ASYMCA on Wednesdays from 1pm - 2:30 pm.
