Crash in Brazos County leaves 13-year-old dead

KURTEN, TX — A 13-year-old boy from Bryan is dead after a fatal crash in Kurten, TX Monday.

13-year-old Jorge Mulato, of Bryan, was pronounced dead on scene, according to DPS Sgt. Morgan.

Troopers were dispatched to a crash on Hwy 21 in Kurten, TX around 2:23 Monday.

The pickup was traveling northbound when the driver became distracted by his cellphone and overturned a curve, according to Sgt. Morgan.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old from Bryan, was transported to Baylor Scott & White and is in stable condition.

The victim, Mulato, was not wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS.

The other passenger, a 19-year-old from Bryan, was taken to CHI St. Joseph where he is in stable condition. He was not wearing a seatbelt, DPS said.

Another passenger, an 18-year-old of College Station, was transported to CHI St. Joseph in serious condition. He was wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS.

The crash is still under investigation.
