BRYAN, TX — Contractors and builders broke ground Wednesday on a new and improved Goodwill in Bryan.

Although the old store needed an upgrade for years, this new location promises to better the Bryan community in more ways than one.

The Goodwill Store in Bryan is more than just a store. It's not only a place where people find hidden treasures, they also find new futures.

"It is going to give us such a better opportunity to service the community. We are really going to be able to get our missing out there," said Joanetta Carter, regional manager of the Bryan Goodwill.

The store that's been a staple on Texas Avenue for many years is moving to a new location on Boonville Road.

The current space is severely limited, with almost no space to drop-off donations, and has been in need of a facelift for years.

"The store could probably have used an upgrade, and we've gone from a little upgrade to a fantastic new upgrade," said Glen Brewer, President and CEO of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce. "This new building that we're getting ready to open is a 1,000 square-foot job connection."

Not only will shoppers have more space to hunt for bargains, people will be able to take computer classes free of charge.

"Heart of Texas Goodwill covers 20 counties in Central Texas and the Brazos Valley," said Shannon Wittmer, President and CEO of Heart of Texas Goodwill.

Once at their new location, there will be many new opportunities for years to come.

The new store will be complete later this year.

Heart of Texas Goodwill currently has five other job connection centers in our area, including Waco, Temple, Killeen, Belton and College Station.
