TEMPLE, TX — A suspect has been charged in the 2019 death of a missing Temple man.

Tommy Herbert was reported missing to the Temple Police Department on May 29, 2019.

On September 12, 2019, the body of a man was discovered in a shallow grave in Killeen.

The body was sent for forensic analysis at the Southwester Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas.

The analysis determined that the body belonged to Tommy Herbert. His manner of death was listed as homicide. According to an autopsy, Herbert died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Following a review, the District Attorney's office determined there was sufficient evidence to charge Palmer Grant Contreras with Herbert's death.

According to Temple PD, Contreras has been in custody since May 31, 2019, on charges of tempering with evidence and possession of child pornography.

A murder warrant was issued and served on December 22, 2020, while Contreras was already in custody on the other charges.
