TEMPLE, TX — Temple Police announced the victim, 19-year-old Claire Hernandez, succumbed to her injuries and next of kin have been notified.
The offender, 18-year-old Chris DeLeon, was still on the scene and after an initial investigation, was placed under arrest and transported to Bell County Jail.
On Wednesday, May 5, a murder warrant was issued for DeLeon and he was taken into custody by the Bell County Sheriff's Office.
He was booked on murder charges into the Bell County Jail early Thursday, May 6, morning. No bond has been set yet.
Temple Police responded to a shooting Wednesday, February 24, morning in the 1800 block of E. French Ave.
Officers responded to the call around 12:19 a.m. when they located a single female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, no suspects have been identified and the circumstances are still under investigation.
