One dead, two injured after shooting near Murphy Street, suspect arrested

KILLEEN, TX — Killeen Police are investigating a shooting near Murphy Street Saturday that left one person dead and two others injured.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division have identified the deceased victim as 34-year-old Asher Levi Kitchens.

The other victims, a 41-year-old and a 42-year-old, remain in the hospital and are in stable condition, according to police.

On Monday, Killeen Police said through the investigation, Detectives with the Homicide Unit identified the suspect involved in the murder.

On Sunday, January 31, 2021, this case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and three complaints were returned.

Syrknoreon Dewuntrel Pilgram, 30, was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On Monday, February 1, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Pilgram was located and arrested at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Gray Street by the United States Marshals Service-Lone Star Fugitive Task Force without incident. Pilgrim was transported to the Killeen City Jail.

Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of York Avenue in reference to a shooting victim around 9:32 PM on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they located three males suffering from gunshot wounds.

Two were immediately transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple and the third victim was deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the three victims were at a residence in the 600 block of Murphy Street.

The suspect arrived and started a disturbance when shots were fired, according to police.

Police said at this time, this appears to be an isolated incident.

The deceased victim was pronounced dead at 10:59 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.
