Officials: House fire in Temple started in garage

TEMPLE, TX — Temple Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire on Monday.

Officials said units responded to a reported house fire on the 1800 block of South 33rd St. early Monday morning.

The first Temple Fire & Rescue unit arrived at 1:48 a.m. and reported heavy smoke coming from the garage of the residence. The fire was sourced to the garage and extinguished by firefighters.

Officials said the cause of the fire is unknown, but that it was not purposeful. The family escaped the fire without injury.

The garage received fire, heat and smoke damage while the rest of the house received only smoke and heat damage. The damages are estimated at $50,000, according to the press release.

Temple police, EMS and Oncor Electric all responded to the fire.
