BELL COUNTY, TX — The Bell County Sheriff’s Department has set up a memorial for those within the community to come and pay their respect after losing two sheriff's deputies.

The memorial is in honor of Deputy John Rhoden and Sgt. Robert Pettigrew.

"We have placed Deputy Rhoden’s patrol vehicle on the sidewalk underneath our U.S. and Texas Flags in front of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, located at 104 South Main Street in Belton," Lt. Bob Reinhard said. "We invite those who would like to come out to use this location to show their support of these two local heroes."

Deputy Rhoden was killed after being struck by an 18-wheeler during a stolen vehicle pursuit this weekend.

Sgt. Pettigrew passed away of natural causes at his home today.

This was the second death of a Sheriff’s Deputy with the department in 28 hours.

Bell County Sheriff’s Department also has a Memorial Foundation that was created to help local First Responder’s in times of need.

Sheriff Eddy Lange created the Bell County Sheriff’s Department Memorial Foundation when he took Office in 2013.

His priority then, and remains today, is to ensure that our local First Responder’s and their families are taken care of and given the assistance that they need during difficult times.

If anyone would like to assist Sheriff Lange in this effort, you may come into the front lobby of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department and leave a donation. You can also send your donations to Bell County Sheriff’s Department Memorial Foundation, PO Box 1563 Belton, Tx. 76513
