The Killeen Independent School District is assuring parents that student will not be penalized for any challenges encountered for either missed assignments or absences for lack of technology or connectivity after the district received more technology requests than expected.

KISD says the district has received technology and Wi-Fi requests well-beyond the originally indicated numbers on the survey and intent forms.

Killeen ISD is now exploring the possibility of opening campuses for face-to-face instruction, before September 8th, for students who do not have access to technology and internet as required by the Texas Education Agency.

"Unfortunately, the district will not receive the ordered devices and hotspots by next week, due to the high demand across the Nation," the district said in an email to parents. "As a result, we want to assure parents that students will not be penalized for any challenges encountered for either missed assignments or absences for lack of technology or connectivity."

At this time, the first three weeks of the school year will be virtual through the SeeSaw and Schoology platforms.

The district anticipates the potential of network capacity challenges as they attempt to launch a 100% virtual platform on Monday.

"We have worked to try to configure appropriate network data ratings, however we will not fully understand all internet capacity needs until all users begin logging in on Monday and thereafter."

KISD's Virtual Learning Center provides training modules for parents and students in support of our online learning platforms.

"We encourage all parents to explore these resources and set up Schoology and SeeSaw accounts to communicate with your teachers."

The Killeen ISD Technology hotline is available to all students and parents Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. and Monday- Friday 7:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m. by calling 254-336-2999. Campuses are open to answer your questions during normal business hours.

"The health and safety of our students, staff, and community continue to be at the forefront of our decisions, balanced with our ability to provide high-level learning opportunities for all students," the email said.

"This continues to be a very fluid and new situation and your patience is appreciated."
