KILLEEN, TX — A Killeen teacher has been chosen as a finalist for Texas Teacher of the Year 2020.

Six finalists have been chosen for Texas Teacher of the Year 2020.

A finalist this year is Crista Marie Privott-Spencer from Fort Hood.

She is a 3rd-Grade Core Subjects Teacher at Killeen ISD's Willow Springs Elementary.

"She goes above and beyond each and every day to meet the needs of her students. She tirelessly looks for innovative and differentiated instructional activities to meet the varied needs of ALL her students to include her sped and ELL students," the site says of Privott-Spencer. "She studies the TEKS and curriculum with enthusiasm in preparation to teach lessons. She is a team player and collaborates with her team to help all third grade teachers and students. Her students love her!"

One teacher is nominated by colleagues and principals for the title of Texas Teacher of the Year every year.

People can then cast votes for which nominee should win Texas Teacher of the Year.

The winner will be announced this upcoming Friday, on May 8, and will take home a grand prize of $5,000.
