KILLEEN, TX — The Killeen Police Department issued over 40 citations during a traffic enforcement detail on I-14 Thursday.

The Move Over/Slow Down operation ran between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

During the detail, Goode's and Leon's Wrecker Companies set up on the highway emergency lighting activated on the side of the road. Officers would then spot, pull over and cite drivers for traffic violations.

According to the department, 42 citations were issued for unlawful passing of certain vehicles. Four were issued due to failure to maintain financial responsibility (no insurance). Three citations were issued for speeding. A total of 49 citations were given out during the three-hour detail.

Killeen PD says the primary purpose was to educate and enforce the Move Over/Slow Down law to protect public safety workers, tow truck operators, TxDOT personnel and other protected persons who routinely work and respond to incidents on the highways and roadways of the state.
