Gumbo cookoff among Disabled American Veterans Chapter 147

KILLEEN, Texas — The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 147 invites the public to a cookoff here in Killeen this Saturday 24th of September.

The competition starts at 2 p.m. and with about five contestants and its not too late to sign up to compete.

Those entering the gumbo competition must arrive between the hours of 12pm and 2 pm but the actual gumbo competition begins at 2, following that there will be a corn hole tournament at 4pm.

Lawrence Ribenburg shared, “We wanted to have something for veterans to do here besides sit around at home try to get them out in the community, try to get the veterans to do things besides wonder around, its more of like a brotherhood sisterhood type feeling, we can relax around each other because you know this guy is military and this guy is military.”

That cornhole competition does have a $15 entry fee, however, those funds all gathered to play in the tournament will be distributed back into the hands of winners of the competitions.
The event will be held at 702 East Avenue E in Killeen, its free and both vets and civilians are welcomed to join.
