Bell County reports first community spread case of COVID-19

The Bell County Health District announced its first community spread case of COVID-19.

During a press conference, the Bell County Health District said they've identified their first community spread case.

The case is in Temple and is a man, according to the Bell County Health District.

The total amount of COVID-19 cases is now 7.

Bell County has issued a directive limiting gatherings to no more than 10 people. The directive takes effect at midnight on Friday, March 20.

According to the County, a gathering is any indoor or outdoor event or convening that brings together or is likely to bring together 10 or more people at the same time in a single room or other single confined or enclosed space such as an auditorium, stadium (indoor or outdoor), tent, arena, or event center, music venue, meeting hall, conference center, large cafeteria, or any other confined indoor or outdoor space.

The gathering does not include:

  • Spaces where 10 or more people may be in transit or waiting for trainsit such as airports, bus stations or terminals
  • Office spaces, public and private schools, child-care facilities, residences or any type of tmeporary sheltering or housing
  • Grocery stores, convenience stores, shopping centers or malls, or other retail and business establishments where numbers might exceed 10 or more, but where it would be unusual for people to within six feet of one another for extended periods
  • Hospitals and medical facilities
