15-year-old boy died after being hit by a vehicle on run in Falls County

FALLS COUNTY — Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a 15-year-old boy who was hit by a vehicle in Falls County while running on FM 431 near CR 343 in Travis.

The incident happened at approximately 7:45 am on Monday, August 9 near Rosebud-Lott High School.

Coaches at Rosebud-Lott High School began CPR on the 15-year-old.

Preliminary investigation revealed a GMC Arcadia was traveling eastbound when it crashed into the runner.

Officials have confirmed the 15-year-old died on the scene. He was later identified as Bryce Fikes by Superintendent Jim Rosebrock.

”We had our coaches and athletic trainer trying to revive the young man before the ambulance was able to get there," said Rosebrock. "We are looking at everything and I can’t tell you how many times this has replayed in our head as we’ve gone through the day. As I told you earlier today, we were in shock, trying to get our feet on the ground.”

No other injuries have been reported. One coach is on administrative leave; pending the investigation that is active and ongoing. Next of kin have been notified.
