COPPERAS COVE, TX — A 16-year-old student has been arrested for bringing a knife to school.

Copperas Cove High School was placed on lockdown Monday after there was a report of a student with a possible firearm.

Copperas Cove PD says during the investigation, it was discovered that a 16-year-old student had an illegal knife and not a firearm. He was detained and transported to the Copperas Cove Police Department.

After the student was transported to the police department, the school was taken off lockdown.

Copperas Cove PD says at no time during the incident were any threats made to students or staff.

Copperas Cove ISD says student discipline will be administered in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

The district is reminding parents and students that no weapons of any kind are allowed on CCISD campuses, and there s a zero tolerance policy regarding weapons on campus.

"Clearly understand that we will always take the necessary steps to keep our school as safe as possible," said Superintendent Dr. Joe Burns. "I recommend using this opportunity to speak with your child about immediately reporting any threats or suspicious behavior to school staff so we can address the concerns immediately. It is our goal to provide a safe learning environment for each and every student and staff member. It is also our mission to provide the best education possible for your student. We must all work together to ensure campus safety."

The district says transportation will run on schedule this afternoon. There will also be counselors on campus to provide support to students.
