KILLEEN, Texas — This isn’t an ordinary bus. You’re looking at The Block Market, a mobile food pantry.

Light of Hope Fellowship Ministries Pastor Bryon Sago it took nearly 1.5 years and $60,000 to bring this idea to life. All to help feed the need in local food deserts like north Killeen.

“We believe in giving to people in the community especially in north Killeen these fresh items. We believe that will help them live longer and help them have less health problems,” Sago said.

Through his "Blessings on the Block" initiative, the Army Veteran and his church used their truck and trailer to give out fresh produce and hygiene products to hundreds in Killeen, Harker Heights, and Copperas Cove since 2020.

"It’s been a passion God laid on my heart to be more impactful in our community,” Sago said.

The bus features four refrigerators, shelves, a working three-bowl sink, a drive-thru pick up window, and more.

With the new set of wheels, Pastor Sago said they’ll be able to reach more.

Pastor Sago said he wants to keep growing. However, he also wants to continue working together with other churches in north Killeen.

“A lot of times we only want to make an impact inside the walls of the church. Being an impact in the community is really important. This is one of the things we’ve taken on in our church. We need to show the people that we care about them," Sago said.

Sago said the Block Market is set to hit the road May 18. He’s asking for people to donate food, hygiene products, and more to help them help others.
