WACO — The Historic Waco Foundation celebrated Texas Independence Day on Saturday.

On March 2, 1836 the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed by the 60 delegates of the people of Texas at the Town of Washington.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Historic Waco Foundation brought guests back to the early days when the declaration was signed.

Events included projects like learning how to quilt, making corn husk dolls, line dancing and even learning how to cook on an open fire.

For the Historic Waco Foundation, events like this is all about keeping history alive.

"History happens every day," Jill Barrow, Executive Director, Historic Waco Foundation. "What happens today is tomorrow's history so history is living and it's important to know what's gone before us so we know how to act and what's coming next."
