Two organizations hosted events in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and community members marched across the Waco Suspension Bridge for peace.

The day of remembrance with an estimated 300 people in attendance continued with speeches and music performances along Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.

"We need to work together, we need to love each other. It's about unity, Peace. Communication, dialogue with each other and that we all can get along," Organizer Alice Pollard said.

The event's goal was to show young people that their voice matters. Some McLennan County students participated in the event by entering into an essay and poster contest. Those who won were recognized on Monday.

During the program, organizers also hosted a canned goods drive with all items collected set to be donated to Caritas of Waco
