The Texas Workforce Commission awarded a hefty check to TSTC in Waco on Monday that will go towards job training.

The Skills Development Fund grant, totaling $155,128, will provide manufacturing training to 78 industrial engineers, electronics technicians and motor mechanics for Evans Enterprises Inc.

Evans Enterprises Inc. is a company that specializes in wind turbine repairs. It has locations in Waco, Abilene and Wichita Falls.

The commissioner representing labor for the TWC Julian Alvarez said these grants help to improve economic development.

"TSTC systems has done a really good job of being, as I referenced earlier, being very aggressive when applying for these grants. They obviously know the regional needs, industry needs," Alvarez said. "We're just happy to be a part of this whole process."

Throughout the year, the TWC travels across the state awarding grants to different colleges and school districts. The Skills Development Fund has helped to create nearly 350,000 jobs in Texas since 1996.
