PHILADELPHIA, Penn.- Texas A&M sophomore guard Chennedy Carter was named to the Midseason Watch List for the 2019 Dawn Staley Award. The award is presented to the most outstanding collegiate guard in women’s basketball.

Carter, the 2018 unanimous National Freshman of the Year, leads the SEC and ranks ninth nationally with 22.2 points per game. She has scored at least 20 points in each of the Aggies’ past six games, averaging 26.2 points per game in that span. Carter adds 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

Carter’s season has been highlighted by a game-winning shot at Auburn (Jan. 24) and earning MVP honors at the Maui Jim Maui Classic, averaging 26.5 points in the Aggies’ wins over UC Riverside (Dec. 14) and then-No. 8 Oregon State (Dec. 15).

Four finalists are announced in mid-March, and the winner is announced the weekend of the Women’s Final Four. Carter is the second Aggie to be named to the Staley Award Watch List since the award’s inception in 2013, joining Jordan Jones (2014-15).

Recently, Carter has been named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 and Women’s Naismith Trophy Midseason Team, both of which are presented to the player of the year. Additionally, she was named a candidate for the Nancy Lieberman Award, presented to the nation’s top point guard.
