Gatesville Junior High School was put on a hard lockdown after a student brought an airsoft pellet gun to school on Wednesday.

According to Gatesville ISD, at approximately 3 p.m., a student informed a teacher that another student brought and displayed the airsoft pellet gun to a friend in the restroom.

Upon notification, the campus was immediately put on hard lockdown and Gatesville police were contacted.

School personnel and police officers were able to locate the student and the airsoft pellet gun without any injury to any students or anyone else.

The incident is still under investigation by the school and police officials.

Principal Cindy Venable applauded the student for giving the information to school administration so they could take swift action on securing the individual and the student body.

Parents are reminded that students are not permitted to bring any device that could be perceived as an actual gun on school grounds or buses. Moreover, students in violation of such incidents will have consequences according to the GISD code of conduct.

If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact campus officials, (254) 865-8271. A hard copy letter will go home tomorrow because the incident was so near dismissal.

Respectfully,

Cindy Venable
