Americans are getting a sharp uptick in robocalls. As scammers get more sophisticated, the number of interruptions continue to grow.

However, app designers are fighting back. A number of apps designed to curb those unwelcome messages have come into the market. While they all work differently, they identify those scam calls and block them before you answer.

“It answers your phone for you when it recognizes that it’s a scam call. It’s already got a list of registered scam callers. So if it recognizes that it’s a scam. It will answer your phone for you, and then proceed, if you set it, it will play certain messages and have a conversation with the telemarketer itself,” said Krystle Dodson, of Compuzone in Killeen.

The number is immediately added to a list of phone numbers to get blocked for everyone using the app.

“It gives the consumer peace of mind. They no longer have to say, is that number calling in something that I have to pick up, is that important? Or is this someone trying to get something out of me that I don’t know,” said Dodson.
