A Harker Heights man was arrested and charged with several offenses after leading officers on a chase.

Harker Heights police said Justin Ellis, 30, had tried to cash fraudulent checks at an Extraco Bank in the area.

Police said that on Jan. 17, Ellis had tried to cash the checks at the bank and had left the scene. Officers were able to locate Ellis. He led officers on a foot chase in a nearby neighborhood.

Ellis, according to police, began jumping backyard fences and tried to hide in an area at a home in the 200 block of Shawnee.

An armed homeowner confronted Ellis. Ellis approached the homeowner, who shot at Ellis, but did not strike him.

Police said that Ellis was cornered in the 2400 block of Caroline Court.

Ellis was transported to the Bell County Jail and faces a forgery, evading arrest and burglary of vehicles with intent to commit theft. His bond is at $15,000.
