For the second consecutive season, McLennan Baseball and McLennan Softball are picked first and second, respectively, in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Coaches Preseason Polls.
The baseball coaches tabbed the Highlanders to claim the conference title, followed by Grayson in second, Cisco in third and Temple in fourth. The top four teams in the conference will advance to the Region V Tournament in May with the regional champion moving on to the JUCO World Series.
In 2018, McLennan finished in second place in the conference with a record of 25-7 and was a regional finalist, ending the season with an overall record of 44-15.
McLennan opens the season Friday, Jan. 25, traveling to Lufkin for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Angelina.
Temple is predicted to finish in first amongst the conference’s softball squads, followed by McLennan in second, Weatherford in third and North Central in fourth. Grayson and Hill are selected to be fifth and sixth, respectively. The top six teams will advance to the Region V North Tournament, also in May.
McLennan had a 22-10 conference record in 2018 for a third-place finish and secured a regional tournament berth. At the tournament in McKinney, McLennan went 4-2 and finished in second place, ending the season with an overall record of 30-13.
McLennan opens the season at home Wednesday, Jan. 30, hosting Alvin for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
