UMHB Women's Basketball rolls past McMurry University

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team took control in the second quarter and never looked back as the Cru rolled to a 94-59 victory over McMurry University Saturday in Belton. UMHB, ranked 7th in the country, improves to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The War Hawks drop to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in ASC play with the loss.

The Cru led 18-17 after the opening period but started the second quarter with 9-0 run to push the lead into double figures. UMHB led 43-27 at halftime after shooting 54 percent from the field in that second period. The lead would grow to 22 points midway through the third and McMurry never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way as the Cru out scored the War Hawks 33-12 in the final quarter.

Hannah Holt led UMHB with 24 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Aubrie Elliott scored 13 points and Allaira Jones, Kendall Rollins and D’Ashiah Williams all added 12. Williams scored all 12 of her points in the fourth quarter. The Cru shot 49 percent from the field as a team and out rebounded McMurry 53-29 in the victory.

Sarah Doherty topped the War Hawks with 17 points. Skyler Reyna added 12 points and a team-best seven rebounds. McMurry shot just 35 percent as a team and only hit 5-25 from three-point range.

The Cru women return to action with a 1 pm tip-off at Concordia Texas next Saturday in Austin. That contest will open a five-game road swing for UMHB basketball.
