HONOLULU, Hawaii – Baylor’s season-opening match with Hawaii went to the wire, but the Golden Rainbows pulled out a 4-3 victory Saturday at the UH Tennis complex.
The home team took the doubles point, winning two of three matches including a tiebreaker on the No. 3 court where Hawaii’s Michelle Pitts and Alzbeta Houbova outlasted the Bears’ Kris Sorokolet and Katelyn Parker, 7-6 (7-4).
Sorokolet put Baylor on the board winning her singles match due to Roxanne Resma retiring on the No. 5 court. Livia Kraus dropped the first set before storming back to take a victory on the No. 1 singles court over the Golden Rainbows’ Petra Melounova 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Jessica Hinojosa won in two sets for Baylor as well, but with UH taking wins on the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 courts, the deciding match came at No. 3. There, Nikola Dolakova edged Baylro’s Angie Shakhraichuk in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
