Eight years after Australian shepherd mix Jasper went missing from his family in Monroe, Louisiana, he was reunited with his family.
Jasper was found 400 miles away in Houston nearly a decade later.
While he was missing, Jasper was brought in by another family who eventually moved to Houston. Over the weekend, that family brought him to the Houston SPCA where he was scanned for a microchip as part of the admissions process.
It was then when the Hendrys family discovered their lost pet was still alive.
"We thought he was dead until we got a phone call from the Houston SPCA saying they had Jasper in their care," said Tiffany Hendry. "It's so great there is a place where animals can be taken in and have their microchipped scanned."
The now 12-year-old dog will live out his days back with the Hendrys on their 50-acre farm.
