Firefighters battled two house fires at unoccupied homes early Sunday morning.

While police officers were responding to the first fire at 512 E. Avenue F, they noticed smoke coming from a wood frame one block away at 517 E. Avenue E.

A total of eight units responded to put out the two fires.

Temple Fire & Rescue said the home on E. Avenue F suffered extensive damage and is considered a total loss. Firefighters on scene monitored a ruptured natural gas line that continued to burn. Atmos Energy will be sending crews to contain and repair the leak.

The house on E. Avenue E. received fire, smoke and heat damage.

The Temple Fire Marshal's Office will be investigating the cause of both fires.

No one was hurt due to the fires.
