With the storm moving into the area, many are bracing for the drop in temperature.

From stocking up on the essentials to prepping the roads, residents are gearing up for whatever mother nature has in store.

For many, that means a stop at the hardware store.

"Every fall it is a good idea to get things like this before everyone runs to get them at the same time before we have shortages,” said Kelly Eakin, of Heights Lumber & Supply, Inc.

Insulation is on top of many shoppers' lists.

“This is an outdoor insulator for your sprinkler unit. It goes over your unit itself and it keeps your whole sprinkler system protected,” Eakin said.

The product had sold out in the rush to buy winter weather essentials. Eakin says they should be getting more soon.

Meanwhile, TxDOT is preparing for any wintry weather.

“It’s a matter of watching, and waiting, being prepared...and responding as necessary,” said Ken Roberts, of TxDOT.

He also reminds drivers to remain cautious behind the wheel.

“Reduce your speed. Eliminate the distractions in your vehicle,” Roberts said. “Be safe, drive smart.”
