Many kids go without presents under the tree for Christmas, but Central Texans could help change that.

The last day to give donations to the Angel Tree is Nov. 30.

Twelve years ago, one temple woman was an angel tree child, and to this day, she remembers that moment. Jessica Tinsworth was 8-years-old when she received her presents.

"Like we were just crying because these people in our community just came by our house," Tinsworth said. "And was like Merry Christmas and bought us gifts. My heart just glowed."

And now she's here to help the ones in need themselves.

"That's why I'm here now with the Salvation Army helping out with the angel tree because I want to help others," Tinsworth said.

If it wasn't for the community, there are many kids that could go without gifts on Christmas.

"Community members look forward to this time of year. They call and ask when is the tree going to be out," Corps Officer Lieutenant Chantel Millin said. "Because they make it apart of their family tradition. It's a great way to teach your children how to give back how to provide Christmas for someone else."

There were 800 angels that started out with no gifts this year, and now that number is down to 200. The Temple Salvation Army is determined to make sure no one is left empty-handed.

"We as a Salvation Army made a commitment that whatever angels aren't adopted we will ensure those children get toys," Lieutenant Millin said. "When they wake up on Christmas morning they have something under the tree."

It's easy to participate, just find a designated tree, pick your angel and go shopping. To see the gratitude of the ones receiving the gifts is something that can't be bought.

"When they're able to walk out and they have that in their hand, and the smile that's on their face the appreciation that they show. Money can't buy," Lieutenant Millin said.

All to help the ones like Tinsworth who is grateful for such a giving community.

"Our community is very passionate about the angel tree so I get a lot of people that are like 'oh I don't know which angel to pick' and all that and its heartwarming to me," Tinsworth said.

The good news is the Salvation Army in Waco has taken care of all the Angel Tree children as local businesses have adopted all the ones in need this year.

"They expect to serve 2,500 children this year through various Christmas program," Major April Taylor with the Waco Salvation Army said. "Throughout the year we will also be working with families in need to offer educational opportunities and identify strategies towards stability."
