The Hillsboro Department of Public Safety said that they have made an arrest in the investigation into the murder of a woman at an apartment complex in February. Police released more details of the gruesome crime on Tuesday.

Deonshira Slider was shot at the Crestridge Apartments in Hillsboro on Feb. 23. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The police department arrested Edgar Barr-Lazcano, 41, on Nov. 18. He was arraigned on murder and endangering a child charges. His bond was set at $1,000,000. Police believe he shot slider through the window of her car.

Slider's cousin, Tomeka Womack, remembers the 27-year-old as a great mother with a great personality.

"She had a fun, bubbly personality. She was always joking, always smiling," Womack said.

She added the arrest is giving the family hope.

"We are devastated. Getting this news yesterday really has helped us to have a little bit of a bright light," Womack said.

She has multiple gunshot wounds, including one in her lungs.

Police said Slider was dating Barr-Lazcano's girlfriend's ex-husband. Witnesses told police that Slider was seen arguing with someone at the mailroom at the apartment complex minutes before her murder. Her child was in the back seat when she was shot.

"We know who is in jail right now but it's still not over. There are still other people who are involved," Womack said. "We are still hurt so bad and we don't want anyone else to happen to anyone else's family so that's why we are staying on top of it."

They said the murder investigation is continuing, and anyone with information into Slider's murder is encouraged to call 254-582-8406.

The Hillsboro Department of Public Safety said more people could be arrested in connection to the case.
