The holidays are right around the corner and what better time to remember those who serve.

The friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will be laying wreaths at the cemetery for the holiday season and they are asking for volunteers to help honor the fallen soldiers.

They are looking for folks to help them prepare and eventually lay close to 9,000 wreaths.

They will be preparing the wreaths on Nov. 17 and placing them at the cemetery the following Saturday.

The friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery said it’s their way of honoring those who serve.

"The laying of the wreaths is such a meaningful thing for anyone that comes out. It’s our way of expressing to America our gratitude to our soldiers who protect America. They have protected us and provided our freedom for years,” said Jean Shine, President of Friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

There is no sign up sheet, so anyone is allowed show up at the special events.

The event is off W.S. Young in Killeen on the Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. or at Texas A&M University Central Texas off Clear Creek in Killeen on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.

From there you will be shuttled to the cemetery to help lay the wreaths.

The first year they laid nearly 400 wreaths at the cemetery, but this year they are placing close to 9,000 so they need all the help they can get.
