The stress that comes along with the holidays often leads more people to domestic violence shelters.

Family Abuse Center Executive Director Kathy Reid said they are serving 34 families through their safe housing program and they expect that number to increase.

"Between here and Christmas, our numbers just skyrocket," Reid said. "I think we had four or five people come in the last three days. Holidays bring out the stress in every family, whether it's a healthy family or an unhealthy family."

In preparation for the next couple of busy months, the Family Abuse Center is asking for your help.

They are in need of gently used mattresses, bed frames, couches and recliners for their clients who are moving into safe housing.

They have just two mattresses left to offer the next family in need.

"Every time a family moves into our housing program, we try our very best to provide them with furniture because they come with nothing," said Reid. "The last thing we want to do is help them find an apartment and then have them sleeping on the floor."

Reid said they are also looking for people who can deliver these items to their location.
