Some people in Bell County are taking the time to prepare for an active shooter situation.

Residents in Morgans Point attended a free active shooter seminar on Tuesday to learn more about active shooter scenarios and how to be better prepared in case they are around when one happens.

The Active Killer Interdiction class is a free seminar put on by P.M. Firearms Instruction and covers a wide variety of topics including how to spot abnormal situations and what actions could save lives during an attack.

The classes instructor Paul Miceli said he changed the name from active shooter to active killer because guns aren’t the only weapons used in these kinds of attacks.

“We talk mostly about firearms in here. When people are actually shooting, because that is predominantly what they are but, felonious attacks happen with more than just guns. The happen with knives, vehicles, bombs, everything. Everything we learn in there tonight can be used for either or,” said Miceli.

Tuesday's class was hosted by the Women in the Outdoors group who said after attending his class in the past they felt more people needed to hear what Paul had to say.

They say what they learned in the class is knowledge everyone should have.

“My biggest take away was just being more aware of your surroundings and knowing to watch for what’s not normal and to become proactive about saving yourself and saving other people,” said Kim Godin, a member of Women in the Outdoors.

P.M. Firearms Instructions holds the free seminar regularly but said if they are not holding one in your area, there are other free classes out there.

They said being educated can save your life and the lives of those around you.
