A Texas man was shot in the head in front of his wife and small children during a road rage incident.

The incident began on Monday night when the family was driving on State Highway 360 to merge onto the westbound Interstate 20 lanes in Arlington, Texas.

As the victim was merging into the right lane, police said he was sideswiped by a man in a light-colored hatchback, causing damage to the mirror and right front fender.

The victim then pulled over to exchange insurance information with the suspect. As he was sitting in the car with his wife in the front seat and two small children in the backseat, the suspect walked over and began kicking the driver's side door and banging on the window.

The victim rolled down the window and the suspect pointed a handgun at him and shot one round at him. The bullet grazed his head and exited out of the passenger window, which was closed.

The woman and children were not injured, police said.

The suspect then drove off westbound on I-20.

Police said the man was taken to a local hospital and later released.
