Staff at Fairview-Miss Jewell Elementary in Copperas Cove ISD helped a soldier returning home from deployment surprise his family.

Staff Sgt. Duane Temple spoke with staff at the school who put together a plan for Temple to surprise both his daughter and his wife, who volunteers at the school nearly every afternoon.

Temple headed straight to his daughter's school once his plane landed.

His daughter, first grader Holly, was called to the office where her father was secretly waiting. She was surprised with flowers and a long-awaited hug.

"Wow. I didn't know you were coming," the girl said as her eyes widened with excitement. "I can't believe it. You are here."

Temple's wife, Karla Valencia, was told by staff Holly was sick and needed to be picked up from school immediately.

Holly and her father then hid in the school principal's office, waiting for Valencia.

Valencia headed toward the nurse's office with the couple's 3-year-old son Iveen. Valencia was stunned when her husband surprised her by walking in the room.

Welcome home Staff Sgt. Temple!
