Dallas police chief terminates officer who fatally shot man in his apartment

Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall has terminated officer Amber Guyger. Guyger fatally shot and killed a man when she mistakenly walked into his apartment.

Guyger wascharged with manslaughter for the killing of 26-year-old Botham Jean on Sept. 6. Guyger was off-duty but still in her uniform when the shooting happened at the South Side Flats, where both Jean and Guyger had apartments.

Guyger has since moved out of the apartment complex.

The police department said Guyger was terminated for her actions.

"An Internal Affairs investigation concluded that on Sept. 9, 2018, Officer Guyger, #10702, engaged in adverse conduct when she was arrested for manslaughter," a statement released by the police department said.

Guyger had been with the department since November 2013.

Under civil service rules, Guyger has the right to appeal the termination.
