The power has been restored in Moody after hundreds went hours without it on Thursday morning.

Moody ISD canceled classes for Sept. 6 due to the high school losing power, but any extra-curricular planned for Thursday will remain as scheduled. Classes will resume on Friday.

According to Oncor, around 572 customers woke up in the dark after a substation caught fire.

Moody Fire Chief Mike Alton said the substation caught fire around 1:20 a.m. due to a possible lightning strike.

The outage affected at least one-third of the city, including the business district, Chief Alton says.

Early Thursday morning, Oncor servicemen were on site with portable transformers working to get power back to the city.

Oncor will have to rebuild the substation that caught fire.
