A man was arrested after police said this was his fourth driving while intoxicated offense on Tuesday.

According to the affidavit, an officer witnessed a dark SUV speeding in the 100 block of W. Texas Avenue in Mart. The vehicle was traveling 47 mph in a 30-mph zone when the driver, 24-year-old Johnny Childers, passed the officer.

The Mart officer stopped Childers and when he approached the window, a strong alcohol odor emitted from the vehicle. The officer also smelled a strong alcohol odor coming from Childers’ breath. His eyes were red and watery.

Childers performed a standard field sobriety test, and when it was concluded, the officer determined that he was not safe to operate a motor vehicle on a public roadway.

Childers was placed under arrest and during the search of his vehicle, the officer found an open container of beer half full behind the passenger’s seat in the pocket still cold to the touch, according to the affidavit.

He was transported to McLennan County Jail.
