2018 State Fair of Texas concession semi-finalists announced

The 2018 State Fair of Texas concession semi-finalists were announced on Tuesday morning.

The 14th annual Big Tex® Choice Awards selected 31 savory snacks and sweet treats that are now one step closer to being featured at this year's state fair.

Forty-nine entries were made by 30 concessionaires in mid-July. Concessionaires must have at least one year of experience at the State Fair of Texas to enter the competition.

This year's semi-finalists include:

  • Deep Fried Bodacious Bacon Bombs
  • Deep Fried Chicken Tetrazzini Parmesana
  • Deep Fried Lobster Pops
  • Deep Fried Ranch
  • Deep Fried Shepherd's Pie
  • Deep Fried Skillet Potato Melt in a Boat
  • Fried Cup of Corn "Elotes"
  • Fried Kool-Aid® Pickles
  • Hoppin' John Cake with Jackpot Sauce
  • King Crispy Coconut Crab Sliders
  • Pico Frito (Deep Fried Pico de Gallo)
  • Southern Fried Chicken Nachos
  • Texas Fried Hill Country
  • Texas Twang-kie

SWEET

  • Bacon Brittle
  • Cherish Erbert Champagne

The top 10 entries will be announced by mid-August. Those finalists will compete in the final competition to win three titles, Best Taste - Sweet, Best Taste - Savory, and Most Creative.

The Tower Building at Fair Park will be open to taste this year's Big Tex Choice Awards on Sunday, August 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at BigTex.com for $125.

All proceeds from the 14th annual Big Tex® will be donated to the State Fair of Texas Scholarship Program.

The 2018 State Fair of Texas will run from September 28 through October 21.
