The city of Lampasas said firefighters are working to put out a grass fire that was started by a discarded cigarette on Tuesday.

City officials said the cigarette was thrown out a vehicle in the 4000 block of Highway 190 East.

Crews from Lampasas Fire Department, Kempner Volunteer Fire Department, and Lampasas County responded. The Texas Forest Service is in route with a bulldozer to assist with containment.

City officials say throwing a cigarette out of a vehicle is not only illegal,  but it puts lives in danger.
