Students in a Texas school district will be receiving free meals for the 2018-2019 school year.

Galveston ISD announced Thursday morning that thanks to the Department of Agriculture's Community Provision program, the district would provide breakfast and lunch for students at no charge.

Students will be able to get basic meals. Add-ons, such as chips, ice cream and other snacks will be sold for extra cost.

"This new approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals," said the district in a statement.
