A woman surrendered herself to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office Thursday after allegedly been involved in a physical relationship with a high school student.

According to Bedford Police, it was brought to their attention that 33-year-old Shannon Hathaway, a Harwood Junior High School Counselor, was having an inappropriate relationship with a former 17-year-old student on May 9.

The relationship was ongoing during the previous school year, 2016-17, and the male student was in the ninth grade at the time.

Bedford Police launched a criminal investigation and received full cooperation from HEB ISD. After concluding the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Hathaway for improper relationship between an educator and student, according to Bedford Police.

Hathaway’s lawyer contacted the department and arranged for her to turn herself into the authorities.

Hathaway is still in jail. Her bond is set at $5,000.
