A Waco police detective is retiring from the force to serve in a brand new position at a Central Texas college.

Detective Clayton Williams has served the Waco community for 24 years. Williams has accepted a position with McLennan Community College, where he will serve as the Chief of Police.

Williams began his law enforcement career in 1984 with the McGregor Police Department. He also served with the Gatesville Police Department, where he was awarded a Medal of Valor.

The retirement ceremony for Williams is scheduled at Waco Police Tower at 1 p.m.

"Working at WPD for the last 24 years has been very rewarding for me," said Williams. "I've enjoyed serving our community and working with so many great people."
