The Baylor women’s tennis program will open its regular season Jan. 26-27 in Austin, Texas, as part of the 2019 ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

The four-team tournament field includes host and top-seeded Texas, second-seeded Baylor, third-seeded Wichita State and fourth-seeded Middle Tennessee. The Bears are scheduled to meet Wichita State in the opening round on Saturday, Jan. 26, while Texas will meet Middle Tennessee. The winners of each dual match will compete on Sunday, Jan. 27 for a berth to the ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championships.

“We are looking forward to competing in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend,” head coach Joey Scrivano said. “Our bracket is one of the most challenging in the nation, but that is exactly what we hoped for. This experience will push us early in the season and prepare us to compete at the highest level.”

The 2019 ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championships will be hosted by Washington at the Seattle Tennis Club in Seattle Washington from Feb. 8-11.

Beginning the season with a high-caliber national competition continues the Bears’ tradition of tough scheduling. Baylor met 20 ranked opponents last season, compiling a record of 8-12 against them, despite having just one upperclassman in senior Theresa Van Zyl.

The Bears played their way to an 18-14 record overall, a 4-5 mark in Big 12 action and made their 14th-straight NCAA team appearance. With a thrilling comeback win over NC State in the first round of the NCAA Championship last year, 4-3, Baylor advanced to the second round for the 14th season in a row.
