For high school student-athletes seeking guidance on how to balance faith and athletic commitments, help is on the way.

Beginning Sunday, June 17, the inaugural Faith and Sport Institute, a George W. Truett Theological Seminary initiative, will kickoff on the campus of Baylor University. The Faith and Sport Institute was created and designed by Dr. John White, who serves as Faculty Director and, Cindy White, the Institute’s Program Director, both of whom were elite level athletes.

The Faith and Sport Institute offers the opportunity for incoming junior and senior high school athletes to receive the spiritual training and knowledge that will help them deepen integrity and leadership while developing convictions and character that help to cultivate greatness both in sports and in life.

Approximately 50 student-athletes from the greater Central Texas region will embark on the eight-day retreat on Baylor’s campus. The Institute will reach athletes from a variety of sports, including football, basketball, track and field, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, cheerleading, and swimming/diving.

The student-athletes will participate in a combination of teaching, small groups, worship and competition designed to test them physically, mentally and spiritually throughout the week.

The experience will extend beyond the eight days spent on Baylor’s campus as each student-athlete is partnered with a mentor, who will provide guidance and encouragement to each participant for the following year.

Local area coaches and athletic directors are also invited to participate in a free seminar by Positive Coaches Alliance based out of Stanford University prior to the start of the Faith and Sport Institute. Free books are offered to those in attendance. The seminar will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Truett Seminary.

The Faith and Sport Institute runs June 17-24.
