Texans have a long-standing relationship with NASA and one Temple high schooler is getting the chance to be part of it.

Garrett Mathesen, a junior at Temple High School, has been accepted into NASA's High School Aerospace Scholars program.

Representative Hugh Shine nominated Mathesen to be one of over 200 young people from all over Texas, getting the chance to receive one week of hands-on experience with the professionals at NASA.

They will be part of daily briefings, working on projects, such as a trip to Mars, and even build models of ships capable of making it to Mars that will be inspected by NASA's engineers.

Mathesen, who wants to be an aerospace engineer, said he's excited to go and urges any young person perusing their dreams to take all the opportunities they can when they come along.
