Remembering the Jarrell Tornado 21 years later

JARRELL, TX (KXXV) -

May 27 marked the 21st anniversary of the Jarrell Tornado. 

The wedge tornado touched down in Jarrell in 1997 and killed 27 people, including entire families. 

Over 40 total structures were completely destroyed by the tornado. 

In 2018, the Central Texas News Now team was awarded with an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for the news documentary category on its 20th anniversary special on the tornado that aired in 2017. The prestigious award represents the values, principles and standards established by Murrow, a pioneer of electronic journalism.
